Out and About
I’ve been out and about more than usual this month. The highlight was our weekend getaway to Ballarat. We were very lucky to have perfect winter weather, cold but sunny.
I went to see The Way My Way, an Australian movie about The Camino de Santiago which I walked in 2014 to celebrate my 60th birthday, I loved the movie and it had a very profound effect on me: The Way My Way
Weekly catch ups with my friend Helen have been fun and lots of laughs. This week we went to Peppergreen Cafe, which gives sustainable employment to people with disabilities. Just inside the door is a small community library, that is usually well stocked with books. We both donated books that we’ve read, and chose books to take home. Friends, books and coffee make a perfect day. We were having so much fun, that I forgot about photos, which is not unusual for me.
Garden
We are well into winter now and the days have been very cold, with some days having a short window of sunshine. I usually try to get outside during those sunny hours, but I haven’t spent as much time as usual, in the garden.
My main objective over the past week has been to make sure my many pots of succulents are protected from frosts. On the nights that frosts are forecast, I plan to cover them. It’s quite time consuming as I have many pots of succulents, but well worthwhile doing. I have many unusual succulents and wouldn’t like to lose any of them.
Word Of The Year #Health
I’ve been toying with a low carb and no sugar diet. Just playing around with it at the moment, but I’ve tried a few recipes which have been surprisingly tasty. I tried an almond milk coffee, just for fun, but sure that it would be dreadful. I surprised myself when I enjoyed an almond milk coffee more than I ever did, my dairy milk coffee. So, I will be sticking with almond milk. I would like to lose a few kilograms, just to take pressure off my knee.
Over the past few months my knee has improved much more than I ever would have expected, without taking the surgery option. Over the past two weeks, I’ve been walking longer distances, up to 2 1/2 hours.
Well, I managed to push it too far, and am now having a pain flare up which has me back on crutches. I’m hoping it’s only a small interlude, and that I can throw the crutches away quickly.
I’m still doing the physio exercises and gym work that I’ve been advised to do, so I’m hoping the strength that has built up in my knee will mean a quick recovery.
Reading
So far, during June, I have read 14 books and have now read 74 books in 2024. I’m slightly ahead of my goal of 140 books in 2024.
Watching
Over a few sleepless nights, I watched all three series of the 2016 Australian drama series Wanted. It was very far fetched but action packed, and kept me interested until the end.
I’ve also been watching Ladies In Black, a TV series set in the ladieswear department of a Sydney department store in 1961. I love the storylines about the fashion industry in the ‘60s.
Blogging
Blogging has taken a bit of a back seat in June, for many reasons, mostly that I’ve taken time out for blog planning. I’m usually a bit his and miss with my blogging, but have decided that now I have more time, I really need to have a plan. Hopefully, I’ll be back with more posts in July.

I hope your flare up is a temporary thing as you’ve been doing so well. I love the idea of that coffee shop - everyone needs a purpose to thrive & not only is it providing that, it’s also giving you somewhere to meet and something to read. Winning.
I am moving much better Lydia. Definitely try the series.
